Robert Franklin Gish, writer, teacher, and scholar, was born April 1, 1940. Gish was raised in Albuquerque, N.M. where he taught both high school and college English. Jimmy Santiago Baca, an American writer, was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on January 2, 1952. At the age of twenty-one he was sentenced to five years in a maximum security prison for drug offenses.
